A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ksmbd (SMB server) component. When the ksmbd module fails to initialize, certain resources, such as the proc tree and per-CPU counters, are not properly deallocated. This resource leak can be exploited by a local user, potentially leading to a Denial of Service (DoS) condition due to resource exhaustion.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 16:40:52 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

smb/server: call ksmbd_proc_cleanup() on module init failure

When a later initializer fails, the unwind chain releases resources
created after procfs and then jumps directly to class_unregister().
Returning an error from module_init() leaves the proc tree and its
per-CPU counters allocated.
