A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. When processing Universal Disk Format (UDF) symlink data, a specially crafted input could cause an out-of-bounds read. This occurs because the `udf_symlink_filler()` function may process a partial `pathComponent` header, leading to the `udf_pc_to_char()` function attempting to read beyond its allocated buffer. This vulnerability could potentially lead to information disclosure or a denial of service.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 17:33:08 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

UDF symlink pathComponent header OOB read

udf_symlink_filler() can enter udf_pc_to_char() with a partial pathComponent header.

Validate that enough input remains for a complete pathComponent header
before accessing it. Reject malformed symlink data that would otherwise
make udf_pc_to_char() perform an out-of-bounds read.
