A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's RDMA/hfi1 component. During an allocation failure, the `hfi1_free_devdata()` function can incorrectly attempt to free a device that was not properly initialized. This can lead to the removal of an unrelated device from the system's unit table. The consequence of this flaw is potential system instability or a denial of service for the affected device.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 17:35:20 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

RDMA/hfi1: Preserve unit 0 on allocation failure

hfi1_free_devdata() assumes that the device was inserted into the unit
table and unconditionally erases dd->unit. If xa_alloc_irq() fails, the
zero-initialized unit remains zero, so full cleanup can remove an
unrelated device from index 0.

Release only the rdmavt allocation and return immediately while the unit
table has not acquired the device.
