A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's `dell-wmi-base` module, which handles system management functions for Dell hardware. This vulnerability is a resource leak, meaning that system resources are not properly released after use. When the `dell-wmi-base` module fails to load, it does not correctly clean up associated System Management BIOS (SMBIOS) requests and privacy driver resources. This oversight could be exploited by a local attacker to exhaust system resources, potentially leading to a denial of service (DoS) where the system becomes unresponsive or crashes.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 18:20:02 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

platform/x86: dell-wmi-base: Fix resource leak on module load failure

We need to properly clean up the SMBIOS request and the privacy driver
when the module load fails.
