A flaw was found in the Human Interface Device (HID) subsystem of the Linux kernel, specifically within the Steam Controller driver. This vulnerability arises because the driver trusts the message size encoded within Steam Controller FEATURE reports without verifying that the reported size matches the actual data read. A local attacker could potentially exploit this by providing a malformed report, leading to short reads and potentially causing a denial of service or other unspecified impacts due to unexpected data processing.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 18:20:08 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

HID: steam: Reject short reads

Steam Controller FEATURE reports encode the size of the message in the
message itself. Previously we were trusting that the size reported matched
the size we actually read, leading to a potential issue with short reads.
Instead, we should actually verify the length of the read.
