A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) tracing mechanism. This vulnerability occurs when `tracing_multi` links are not properly managed, specifically when they fail to release resources after being attached alongside `fentry` links. This improper resource handling can lead to system instability or a denial of service (DoS) condition, impacting the availability of the system.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-17 19:03:50 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

bpf: Mark tracing_multi trampolines as ftrace managed

Since tracing_multi link does not set ftrace_managed, it would fail to
release the tracing_multi link when attaching tracing_multi link and
then attaching fentry link.

[ 3.734414] bpf_link_release+0x23/0x30

Fix it by setting 'ftrace_managed = true' in register_fentry_multi().
