Description guimarcalsilva 2026-09-22 19:55:03 UTC
Description of problem:
Today I tried updating from Discover on Fedora Kinoite 45 beta and it showed: "error: Transaction in progress: update --check. You can cancel the current transaction with `rpm-ostree cancel`.

It happened right after booting the system. At first I checked for updates on Discover and only Flatpak packages were pending, then I updated them. I then noticed the discover update icon was still on the system tray, I clicked on it, Discover opened again and it showed me that error (I don't remember if the error appeared immediately after clicking the tray icon or if I told it to refresh the updates first). I then ran 'sudo rpm-ostree update check' in the terminal, it finished, and after going back to Discover it showed a new system image was available.

Discover is likely not waiting for other parts of the system to finish fetching updates.

If possible, it would make a better UX if Discover waited for rpm-ostree (and other back-ends) to finish (maybe with a timeout if things go wrong) and only then tried to show updates available on the system, which could avoid the error completely.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 6.7.5

How reproducible:
It happened once until now. I'm new to Fedora Kinoite, it's a fresh install from 2 days ago. I remember seeing something similar in normal Fedora 44 KDE too, sometimes it would only show me Flatpaks and later it would show me the rest of available updates, the difference is that it usually wouldn't throw an explicit error and prevent me from updating.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the system
2. Immediately go to Discover and check for updates, then update the Flatpaks
3. Check updates again, chances are it will show you the error if you're on Kinoite or show new RPM updates on normal Fedora.

Actual results:
rpm-ostree sometimes is busy fetching updates

Expected results:
Discover should wait for all backends to finish doing whatever they're doing and only then try to show updates or update the system
