A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Thunderbolt subsystem. When handling communication responses, a failure to set up a configuration request—such as when the control channel is already shut down—causes the system to return an error without releasing allocated memory. A local user or repeated communication errors can trigger this condition, potentially resulting in a denial of service (DoS) through system memory exhaustion.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-24 16:34:08 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

thunderbolt: Release request if tb_cfg_request() fails in __tb_xdomain_response()

If tb_cfg_request() fails setting up the request (for example the
control channel is shut down already) it returns an error without
calling the callback. To avoid leaking that memory, call
tb_cfg_request_put() if tb_cfg_request() fails.
