A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's SMB (Server Message Block) client. Certain file information structures allocated on the stack are not zero-initialized, leaving them containing random data when specific fields are not explicitly set. A local user performing file operations on a mounted SMB share could cause the kernel to process this uninitialized memory. This vulnerability can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) via a system crash or result in unexpected kernel behavior.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-24 16:43:15 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

smb/client: zero-initialize stack-allocated cifs_open_info_data

Stack-allocated cifs_open_info_data may contain random data.
This can make some fields have wrong value if they are not set later.
