A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's XFS file system. When an input/output (I/O) error occurs while writing cached data buffers to disk during b-tree preparation, the kernel fails to release an allocated buffer. A local user performing file system operations could trigger this condition to leak locked buffers, leading to resource exhaustion and a denial of service (DoS).

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-25 10:50:30 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

xfs: don't leak new_bp if xfs_btree_bload_drop_buf fails

LOLLM observes that in xfs_btree_bload_prep_block,
xfs_btree_bload_drop_buf can hit an IO error if writing the delwri
buffer list to disk fails. In this case, we fail to release new_bp,
which means we lose a locked buffer. Fix that.
