A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's MediaTek video codec driver. An out-of-bounds write occurs during AV1 video decoding because tile information from the video stream is copied into fixed-size internal memory without proper bounds checking. A local user could exploit this flaw by submitting specially crafted video data, causing memory corruption that can lead to a system crash and Denial of Service (DoS) or potentially privilege escalation.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-25 11:16:15 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

media: mediatek: vcodec: bound AV1 tile-start copy to the array capacity

vdec_av1_slice_setup_tile() copies tile_cols + 1 / tile_rows + 1 entries
into mi_col_starts[] / mi_row_starts[] from the bitstream tile_info. Bound
the copy to the array capacity.
