A flaw was found in the Linux kernel printk subsystem. A local user could trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by causing an unexpected system crash if the kernel is configured to panic on warnings. This issue occurs because the kernel inappropriately triggers a warning check when background print thread creation fails due to an interruption signal. By terminating the thread creation process, an attacker can provoke this warning condition and disrupt system availability.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-25 11:33:32 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

printk: Don't WARN on kthread_run failure.

Since __kthread_create_on_node() returns -EINTR upon SIGKILL,
we should not use WARN_ON() in order to catch kthread_run() failure.
