A flaw was found in Apache WSS4J. A remote attacker can exploit an element confusion issue in encrypted header processing by sending a specially crafted message. This vulnerability causes the application to treat an attacker-controlled plaintext element as a decrypted header, potentially leading to security policy bypass and compromised message confidentiality.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-30 12:35:16 UTC
WSS4J EncryptedHeader child confusion could promote an attacker-controlled plaintext element as the decrypted header, leading to incorrect confidentiality coverage and possible policy bypass.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
