A flaw was found in pypdf. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by submitting a specially crafted PDF document with specific form field values. When an application updates these fields with flattening enabled, redundant computational operations are repeated inside a loop during appearance stream generation. This excessive workload consumes processing resources, leading to application unresponsiveness and a Denial of Service (DoS).

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-30 20:32:48 UTC
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.19.0, a crafted PDF with form field values can cause pypdf/generic/_appearance_stream.py appearance-stream generation to repeat invariant selection-data work inside a loop when an application updates fields with flattening enabled, resulting in excessive runtimes and application unavailability. This issue is fixed in version 6.19.0.
