A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's virtual Wi-Fi (virt_wifi) driver. This issue can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) due to an unreleased memory leak. When a simulated wireless link is disconnected, the driver fails to free packet buffers after dropping outgoing network packets. A local user can exploit this vulnerability by transmitting network traffic over the disconnected interface, potentially exhausting system memory.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-06 09:25:41 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: virt_wifi: free skb when disconnected

When the simulated link is disconnected, virt_wifi_start_xmit() returns
NET_XMIT_DROP without freeing the skb. dev_hard_start_xmit() treats this
return value as consumed, so every packet sent while disconnected leaks its
skb.

Free the skb before returning the drop status.
