A flaw was found in NTFS-3G. A heap-based buffer overflow occurs when expanding a directory on a specially crafted NTFS filesystem image, such as during file creation. A local attacker can exploit this vulnerability to corrupt memory within the privileged binary, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution and privilege escalation.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-07 14:12:11 UTC
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_ir_to_ib() in index.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by extending a directory, e.g., by creating a file.
