A flaw was found in ntfs-3g. This vulnerability allows a local attacker to achieve privilege escalation or cause a Denial of Service (DoS) through memory corruption. By mounting or processing a specially crafted NTFS filesystem image containing manipulated file metadata, the flaw triggers a heap-based buffer overflow within the set user ID (SUID) root utility. An attacker could exploit this condition to execute arbitrary code with elevated root privileges.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-07 14:31:46 UTC
In NTFS-3G before 2026.7.7, a heap buffer overflow exists in ntfs_index_walk_down() in libntfs-3g/index.c that allows an attacker to corrupt heap memory in the SUID-root ntfs-3g binary by crafting a malicious NTFS image. The overflow is triggered by reading the special crafted file metadata.
