A flaw was found in Hugo. An attacker with permissions to author Markdown content can exploit this stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability by supplying crafted heading identifiers. When Hugo generates a table of contents or heading fragments, the unescaped attributes allow arbitrary HTML and event handlers to be injected into rendered web pages. This issue may allow malicious scripts to run in the context of a visiting user's browser session.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-12 22:55:35 UTC
Hugo from v0.60.0 before v0.167.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows Markdown content authors to inject HTML by supplying crafted explicit heading IDs. Attackers can break out of the unescaped href attribute in .TableOfContents or .Fragments.ToHTML output to inject elements with event handlers into rendered pages.
