A flaw was found in novel. The application stores user account passwords using unsalted Message Digest 5 (MD5) hashes during registration rather than a modern, secure hashing algorithm. An attacker who obtains the database records or backup files can rapidly crack these hashes using brute-force techniques or precomputed lookup tables, leading to the exposure and potential reuse of plaintext user credentials.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-13 17:41:35 UTC
Xxyopen novel through 3.5.0 contains a weak password hashing vulnerability that allows attackers to recover plaintext passwords because UserServiceImpl.register() stores unsalted MD5 digests in user_info.password. Attackers who obtain the password column through a database leak or backup exposure can crack hashes with precomputed tables or GPU brute force and reuse credentials.
