A flaw was found in Thunderbird. A malicious, compromised, or intercepted Exchange server can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by returning a crafted Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) response containing an element with an excessive number of attributes. Processing these attributes monopolizes the application's main thread, rendering the client unresponsive for an extended period.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-13 18:33:47 UTC
A malicious, compromised, or MITM-controlled Exchange server can return a single well-formed SOAP response containing an element with enough attributes to keep Thunderbird's main thread CPU-bound for seconds to hours. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 158 and Thunderbird 153.5.
