Doc Text:
A flaw was found in vifm. This vulnerability allows a local attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution with the privileges of another user. The application reuses pre-existing inter-process communication (IPC) named pipes in a shared temporary directory without verifying file ownership. A local attacker can exploit this issue by pre-creating a world-writable pipe and injecting commands that execute when a victim launches the application.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-13 19:04:10 UTC
Vifm 0.8.1-beta through 0.14.4 reuses a pre-existing IPC FIFO in the shared temporary directory without checking ownership, allowing local users to execute commands as another user. Attackers can pre-create a world-writable vifm-ipc-vifm FIFO and write IPC packets with -c and ! shell commands that execute with the victim's privileges.
