A flaw was found in libnsbmp. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted bitmap (BMP) image file to an application utilizing the library. Due to improper bounds checking during the decoding of compressed image data, processing the malformed image triggers an out-of-bounds read. This flaw can cause the affected application to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-15 19:04:27 UTC
NetSurf libnsbmp through 0.1.7 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in bmp_decode_rle8() and bmp_decode_rle4() because absolute-run bound checks omit the word-alignment pad byte. Attackers can supply a crafted RLE8 or RLE4 BMP ending on an odd-length absolute run to cause a one-byte heap over-read, crashing applications decoding untrusted images.
