A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Integrity Policy Enforcement (IPE) subsystem. When dm-verity updates a root hash, the old hash can be freed while concurrent policy evaluation operations are still accessing it. A local attacker could exploit this use-after-free condition to trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) via a system crash or potentially cause memory corruption.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-18 15:32:35 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ipe: protect the dm-verity root hash with RCU

ipe_bdev_setintegrity() frees the old root hash when dm-verity publishes
a new one on ->preresume, while policy evaluation can still be
dereferencing it.

Protect the root hash with RCU. The evaluation path already runs under
rcu_read_lock().
