A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's fbnic network driver. A local user with administrative privileges could trigger a denial of service (DoS) and crash the system by configuring a network ring buffer size of zero. Because the driver fails to validate the input before executing a rounding calculation, processing a zero value causes an undefined operation.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-18 15:38:11 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

eth: fbnic: Avoid rounding zero ring sizes

roundup_pow_of_two() is undefined for zero. ethtool permits a zero ring
size to reach the driver, where the minimum-size check should reject it.

Leave zero unchanged while rounding nonzero ring sizes. The minimum-size
check then rejects zero deterministically without changing the established
behavior for other values.
