A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Industrial I/O (IIO) adis16136 gyroscope driver. The driver fails to properly synchronize debugfs read operations during device unbinding, allowing an active read to continue after the underlying device data structures have been freed. A local user with access to the debugfs interface could exploit this flaw to trigger a use-after-free condition, leading to kernel memory corruption or a Denial of Service (DoS) via a system crash.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-18 15:56:55 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

iio: gyro: adis16136: fix unprotected debugfs reads

The serial_number file operations are open coded and never call
debugfs_file_get(), which debugfs_create_file_unsafe() requires.
debugfs_remove_recursive() therefore does not wait for a read in
progress, and unbind frees the iio_dev underneath it.

Use debugfs_create_file() instead.
