A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ADIS16480 Industrial I/O (IIO) driver. The driver fails to protect debug file system (debugfs) read operations against concurrent device removal. A local attacker with access to debugfs can exploit this race condition by reading firmware attributes while unbinding the device, causing a use-after-free condition. This flaw primarily results in a Denial of Service (DoS) through a kernel crash and may potentially lead to privilege escalation.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-18 16:00:13 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

iio: imu: adis16480: fix unprotected debugfs reads

The firmware_revision and firmware_date file operations are open coded
and never call debugfs_file_get(), which debugfs_create_file_unsafe()
requires. debugfs_remove_recursive() therefore does not wait for a read
in progress, and unbind frees the iio_dev underneath it.

Use debugfs_create_file() instead.
