A flaw was found in the rasttopnm utility of Netpbm. An attacker could exploit this by enticing a user to convert a specially crafted Sun rasterfile image with a truncated color palette, triggering an out-of-bounds memory read. Successful exploitation can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) by crashing the application or allow unauthorized information disclosure by exposing adjacent memory contents in the generated output.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-19 14:16:24 UTC
Netpbm through 11.16.00 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in rasttopnm that allows attackers to read heap memory by supplying Sun rasterfiles with short colormaps. Attackers can craft colormapped rasterfiles with pixel bytes exceeding the palette length to leak up to 255 adjacent heap bytes into the PNM output or crash the program.
