A flaw was found in uv. An attacker can perform arbitrary file writes outside the intended directory by providing a malicious source distribution (sdist) archive. During tar extraction, uv fails to properly validate a crafted sequence of symbolic links, redirecting file writes across the filesystem when a user installs the untrusted package.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-21 00:56:38 UTC
Astral uv before 0.8.22 contains a path traversal vulnerability in source distribution (sdist) tar extraction that allows a specially crafted sequence of symlinks to redirect file writes outside the intended extraction prefix. Attackers can publish a malicious sdist that, when installed by a victim, writes arbitrary files to filesystem locations outside the installation prefix.
