A flaw was found in pypdf. A remote attacker can trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by supplying a specially crafted PDF document containing a cyclic outline structure. When the application inspects the document using the outline search function (PdfWriter.find_outline_item), it enters an infinite loop that causes the process to hang and stop responding.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-21 16:14:59 UTC
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.20.1, calling PdfWriter.find_outline_item on a crafted PDF with a cyclic outline hierarchy can enter an infinite loop and block the current process. This issue is fixed in version 6.20.1.
