A flaw was found in mistune. This flaw allows a remote attacker to read arbitrary files and access sensitive system data through a path traversal vulnerability in the reStructuredText (RST) include directive. By submitting crafted markup referencing absolute file paths or directory traversal sequences, an attacker can embed local files into the rendered output.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-22 20:05:52 UTC
Mistune before 3.3.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the RST include directive that allows attackers to read arbitrary files by supplying relative or absolute paths. Attackers can submit markdown containing include directives referencing ../ sequences or absolute paths to embed sensitive files like credentials or environment data in rendered HTML.
