A flaw was found in Incus. This vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker with restricted project permissions to achieve privilege escalation to administrative (root) level on the host system. By specifying custom creation options during volume update, copy, or move operations, a user can bypass project-level restrictions. When the volume is subsequently copied or moved onto a formatting storage pool, the manipulated options inject arbitrary arguments into the filesystem creation utility (mkfs), executing commands with root privileges.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-22 20:51:16 UTC
Incus from 7.3.0 before 7.5.0 contains a project restriction bypass that allows restricted project users to set block.create_options through volume update, copy, and move operations. Attackers can set the option on a custom volume and trigger a copy or move onto a formatting pool to inject arguments into mkfs executed as root.
