A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ARM System Control and Management Interface (SCMI) firmware driver. The notification handler fails to properly validate the size of incoming base error event payloads before copying the report array. A compromised or malfunctioning firmware interface can provide a truncated payload, triggering an out-of-bounds memory read. This issue may result in a system crash, leading to a denial of service (DoS), or potentially expose sensitive kernel memory.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-23 11:55:04 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

firmware: arm_scmi: Validate BASE_ERROR_EVENT payload size

BASE_ERROR_EVENT carries a variable number of message reports,
with the count encoded in error_status. The notification parser used
that count without checking whether the received payload contained all
reported entries.

Reject truncated payloads before copying the report array.
