A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ntfs3 file system driver. The driver fails to properly handle errors when configuring the block size while mounting a file system. A local user could exploit this flaw by mounting a specially crafted NTFS image with an unsupported block size, triggering a kernel crash and causing a Denial of Service (DoS).

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-23 12:02:40 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ntfs3: handle set_blocksize failures

ntfs3 uses buffer_heads, which don't handle block size > PAGE_SIZE well.
Without this, mounting we will hit the

        BUG_ON(offset >= folio_size(folio));

in folio_set_bh on the first __bread_gfp call.
