A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's tracing subsystem. In the event filter parser, insufficient boundary checks allow the operator stack to be written past its allocated limit. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a specially crafted trace filter expression, triggering an out-of-bounds write. This issue primarily results in a system crash, causing a Denial of Service (DoS), or potential kernel memory corruption.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-10-28 10:56:24 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

tracing: Check operator stack capacity before pushing

predicate_parse() uses the first operator stack entry before processing
any opening parentheses. A push then increments top before writing.
The existing check still permits that write when top already points to
the last allocated entry, which can access beyond the operator stack.

Reject the push when top reaches the last allocated entry.
