A flaw was found in Elasticsearch. An authenticated user can bypass access controls to view restricted data, leading to information disclosure. Certain search and query operations fail to enforce field-level security—which restricts access to specific data fields within an index—on constant keyword fields. As a result, users can retrieve field values that their assigned roles are not permitted to access.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-11-03 18:03:59 UTC
Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Elasticsearch can lead to information disclosure via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated user whose index access is restricted by field-level security can retrieve the value of a constant_keyword field that their role excludes. Some search and query features do not apply the field-level security restriction to this field type.
