A flaw was found in sngrep. This vulnerability allows an attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by convincing a user to open a specially crafted packet capture (PCAP) file. Due to improper validation in the packet reassembly routine, processing malformed Netfilter logging (NFLOG) data triggers an infinite loop, consuming excessive processor resources and halting packet processing.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-11-04 13:04:25 UTC
sngrep through 1.9.0 contains an infinite loop vulnerability in capture_packet_reasm_ip() in src/capture.c that allows attackers to cause denial of service via crafted NFLOG TLVs. Attackers can supply a pcap file with link type NFLOG containing a non-payload TLV with length under 4, making the capture thread spin at full CPU and stop processing packets.
