A flaw was found in Codex Desktop. Improper validation of quotation marks in project paths allows an attacker to inject application startup arguments when a user opens an attacker-controlled project through Windows Explorer. This issue can lead to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the logged-in user before user sign-in or project trust verification occurs.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-11-05 22:32:27 UTC
Codex Desktop for Windows does not correctly check quotation marks in project paths from Windows Explorer. If a user selects "Open project in ChatGPT" for an attacker-controlled library's child item, the path can add application startup arguments. These arguments can run attacker-controlled code with the current Windows user's permissions before sign-in or project trust approval.
