A flaw was found in hickory-net. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending spoofed network packets. When a client User Datagram Protocol (UDP) connection receives a response that cannot be parsed as a Domain Name System (DNS) message, the client terminates the connection and returns an error. An attacker who correctly guesses the query's source port can send malformed responses to abort active client queries.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-11-08 02:01:56 UTC
The hickory-net crate in Hickory DNS 0.26.0 before 0.26.2 stops listening and returns an error when a client UDP connection receives a datagram that cannot be parsed as a DNS message. Remote attackers who guess the query's source port, without knowing the transaction ID, can spoof malformed responses to abort client queries, causing denial of service.
