A flaw was found in hickory-proto. An integer underflow vulnerability during Transaction Signature (TSIG) record decoding allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS). By sending a specially crafted TSIG record in Domain Name System (DNS) wire format, an attacker can trigger an unchecked numerical underflow error that crashes the application.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-11-08 02:06:15 UTC
Hickory DNS from 0.26.0 before 0.26.2 contains an integer underflow vulnerability in TSIG RDATA decoding that allows remote attackers to trigger a panic via malformed records. Attackers can send a crafted TSIG record in DNS wire format to cause unchecked subtraction underflow, crashing builds with overflow checks enabled and causing denial of service.
