Did you run mkinitrd? This is most commonly caused by not running mkinitrd followed by running lilo. I did for both 2.2.17-14 and 2.2.17-14BOOT, added them in /etc/lilo.conf and ran /sbin/lilo it loads the ncr53c8xx module and prints three unknown variable (or something) error messages, fails, then VFS (directly after) can't mount the root drive and it causes an immediate kernel panic. Could you copy off the error messages ("unknown variable") for me?
Sure thing-- Here it is: I think it's right anyways (I had to write it down and then re-type it) VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem). Loading ncr53c8xx module /lib/ncr53c8xx.o: unresolved symbol scsi_register_Rb13032e6 /lib/ncr53c8xx.o: unresolved symbol scsicam_bios_param_R9a823fa6 /lib/ncr53c8xx.o: unresolved symbol scsi_unregister_R84f2a037 autodetecting RAID arrays autorun ... ... autorun DONE. kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno = 2 VFS: Cannot open root device 08:01 Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01 Thanks for the bug report. However, Red Hat no longer maintains this version of the product. Please upgrade to the latest version and open a new bug if the problem persists. The Fedora Legacy project (http://fedoralegacy.org/) maintains some older releases, and if you believe this bug is interesting to them, please report the problem in the bug tracker at: http://bugzilla.fedora.us/ |
