Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures assigned an identifier CVE-2007-4996 to the following vulnerability:

A remote MSN user that is not on the buddy list can cause a denial of service (crash) by sending a nudge message. The protocol plugin attempts to look up the buddy's information and accesses an invalid memory location if the user is not on the buddy list.

These issues did not affect the versions of Pidgin or Gaim as shipped with Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3, 4, or 5.

Fedora pidgin packages were updated to fixed upstream version.
