Currently, opengl-games-utils greps for "direct rendering" in the output of
glxinfo to distinguish between accelerated and software-rendered 3D.
Unfortunately, this test isn't conclusive.

Besides problems with some proprietary drivers, AIGLX provides a
non-direct-rendering way to accelerate 3D and using the wrapper in its current
state would lock out users of it.

Unless the test can be shown to work in all cases, it would be best if users
could bypass the check, e.g. by adding a "Start Program anyway" button.

Unfortunately, I can't try out changes currently as accelerated 3D on my box
isn't working (see bug #228414).

A lot of things have been claimed to not work with the wrapper, but on one has
managed to prove this in an actual test-case. I just enabled desktop effects on
a F8-test2 live cd and then run glxinfo, it still says direct-rendering: Yes.

glxinfo also says direct-rendering: Yes for both the nvidia and fglrx drivers
(both have been confirmed by actual users).

So I'm closing this, please only reopen if you can give a real world, tested,
reproducible example where this does not work.
