Description of problem:
won't boot after software update

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Kernal fails at boot after upgrade  (2.6.22.9-91.fc7)

How reproducible:
On Intel classic motherboard   DG33BU
loaded fromDVD from Linux Format LXFdvd95  no problem
kernel is  (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7
210 updates available
after updating to (2.5.22.9-91.fc7) Kernel hangs on re-boot

Steps to Reproduce:
1.load dvd as full new load (2.6.21-1.3194.fc7)
2.210 updates available   delete reference to Kernael
3.Update  and reboots OK
4.leave kernel in and hangs on reboot.(2.6.22-9.91.fc7)
last line on screen is 
ACPI: PCI Root Bridge [PCIO] (0000:00)
  
Actual results:
Faile to re-boot

Expected results:
A re-boot of updated system

Additional info:

motherboard is Intel Classic  DG33BU with two 250G sat2 drives and a network
card DFE-538TX/R  10/100  (no other cards.)  2.33 duo processor and 2.G ram

On board sound card detected OK
On board 10/100/1000 fast network card not detected
On board graphics not correct resolution detected

Try adding this to the new kernel's options in /etc/grub.conf after updating and
before rebooting:

 pci=nomsi,nommconf

So it should look something like

  kernel <kernel-name> ro root=LABEL=/ pci=nomsi,nommconf <other options>

And the old kernel is still there after updating, you can press a key on the
very first boot screen and choose the old kernel.

I did that and boot still does not work  (hangs)on the new kernel Also as you
said the old one is still there so was able to edit in your change.
I have quiet also  is there a verbose option  that might help to see where it
stops.  as this time it was only showing the "booting the kernel"

Sorry  my error
It is now working  and 14 more packages updated  also monitor noe showing more
options for size
