Description Steve Siano 2007-11-07 22:03:29 UTC
Description of problem:
1. The Service Configuration Tool web-based help (from the Help menu,
file:///usr/share/doc/system-config-services-0.9.4/html/index.html) is out of
date. The images are from an older version, and do not show the "Background
Services" and "On Demand Services" tabs. The image in the Deployment Guide is
up-to-date.

2. In both the web-based help and the Deployment Guide the tool is referred to
as "Services Configuration", whereas the tool identifies itself as "Service
Configuration".

3. In both the web-based help and the Deployment Guide there is no
documentation about creating SysV init scripts. I would like to see
documentation that shows how to ensure that a new init script added to the
Service Configuration tool can be started from this tool. FYI Bug 242735
provides internal Red Hat links to init script guidelines. Maybe these can be
used in the updated docs. Red Hat Knowledgebase Article 5120 is also useful.
Using this article, I wrote an init script that works properly from the command
line and during shutdown and boot up. Also, the Stop action works fine from the
Service Configuration tool. But the Start action starts the service but then
hangs (it does not report in a dialog box that the start was successful). There
is no documentation stating what the Service Configuration tool expects from an
init script that starts a service.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
The Service Configuration tool does not have an About menu item in the Help menu.
