Description of problem:
when I logout from my kde session and press instantly turnoff or restart i go
back to the console mode and get this messages 3 times:
gdm_binary[some precess number]:CRITICAL: gdm_connection_close: assertion "conn
!= NULL" failure

and then the gdm restartes and falls back to a default login screen with a
sunflower. then it restarts once again  and after this my mashine turns off /
restarts.

I tried and saw that if i wait for some seconds between loging out and pressing
restart/turnoff then this messages doesn't appear and i see the normal echo
messages when the mashine goes down. But i see this error about 99% of the time.
it looks like the gdm has still some connection to the x server that isn't
closed and therefore it cannot go to the console framebuffer for the echo messages.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
fedora 8 with all updates applied, this happens ain both x86 ans x86_64 versions
but I couldn't reproduce it with the fedora-8-live-kde-cd.

This is a known issue, but it isn't currently being investigated.

But I'm sure someone can just look into the code and find the "nasty bug". fc7
didn't have this. so maybe the gdmgreeter or the gdm itself in fc8 has something
new that causes this?

Yea, it shouldn't be that hard to debug and fix.  It's just not near the top of
the priority queue relative to other issues at the moment.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 8.  It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained.  At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 
'version' of '8'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' 
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life.

Fedora 8 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-01-07. Fedora 8 is 
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further 
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of 
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
