Sounds like perhaps a gnome-vfs or GTK+ issue. Can you open the file with an open dialog in a different application, say GEdit? Matthew: Yes. I only tried with gnomevfs-cat before, but gedit opens the file just fine. Do you have a WebDAV server set up to try that yourself, or would it be of any use if I made a directory/account on my server for you to test it? By the way, is there any chance Evolution will be able to work with ICS files just like any other application -- i.e. open&save repeatedly instead of import&export by hand each time the calendar changes? I'm not very WebDAV-savy yet. > By the way, is there any chance Evolution will be able to work with ICS files > just like any other application -- i.e. open&save repeatedly instead of > import&export by hand each time the calendar changes? Not sure I understand. Why do you have to import/export by hand? try importing dav://chuck.netbsd.sk/dav/test.ics

It might be that I just do not understand something or am not aware of a
feature. Let's say I have a calendar in an ICS file (possibly on gnome vfs) and
want to use it in evolution, be able to change it in evolution and synchronize
the changes with the ICS file each time I change it comfortably. (So other tools
that read the ICS always have an up-to-date copy).
I've only been able to import the file in evolution, and export it whenever I
wanted the results in ICS.
(In reply to comment #4) > try importing dav://chuck.netbsd.sk/dav/test.ics I tried and Evolution hung waiting for a response. I'll take a closer look again later. > It might be that I just do not understand something or am not aware of a > feature. I think that's what CalDAV is for, isn't it? Uff. Did you try opening it with gnomevfs-cat? > > It might be that I just do not understand something or am not aware of a > > feature. Partly. Anyways, do we have a CalDAV server in Fedora? Or does even a decent one exist? > Uff. Did you try opening it with gnomevfs-cat? That worked okay. I'll try again with Evolution. > Partly. Anyways, do we have a CalDAV server in Fedora? Or does even a decent one > exist? Not that I'm aware of; I was trying to find something suitable for client-side testing earlier. I think our shiny new Zimbra server is supposed to get CalDAV support soon. Did you by chance find time to look at this? I just tried with rawhide and got the exactly same behavior, i.e. no crash, just inability to open the file. ping Haven't had time to look at this again yet but it's on my list. This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '8'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 8 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping Fedora 8 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-01-07. Fedora 8 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. Reopening and setting version to Rawhide. I was reminded of this last night while I was fixing a different importer bug. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 11 development cycle. Changing version to '11'.
