Changing version to '9' as part of upcoming Fedora 9 GA.

Comment 2 Joachim Frieben 2009-02-02 08:13:36 UTC
I have the same problem with a Tyan K8E. The issue notably affects the "boot.iso" install image of F10 and of current "rawhide" as of 2009-02-01.
I have also tried several Ubuntu releases, and none of them has this problem.

Comment 3 Joachim Frieben 2009-02-03 13:35:18 UTC
The issue is by no means restricted to x86_64 systems (which is my standard flavour, too). Booting from the Fedora 9 i686 live CD on my Tyan S2865 equally fails when choosing "Boot from local drive". Info on the system disk (Hitachi Deskstar HDT722516DLAT80) from 'hdparm -I /dev/sda':

I've experienced this too.

Comment 5 Joachim Frieben 2009-05-03 17:32:22 UTC
Current "rawhide" still does not allow to boot from a local drive after booting from "boot.iso" for my Tyan K8E. Instead, the system halts displaying "PRESS A KEY TO REBOOT". Live CDs using GRUB like OpenSolaris 2009.06 or Ubuntu 9.04 do not have this problem.

Comment 6 Jeremy Katz 2009-05-04 18:50:09 UTC
This tends to be BIOS dependent more than anything. Is this still happening with Fedora 11 previews as we've moved to a more current version of syslinux (we were a little behind for a while)

Comment 8 Bug Zapper 2009-06-09 23:30:06 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '9'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 9 Joachim Frieben 2009-06-10 13:29:50 UTC
The latest version syslinux-3.75-1.fc11 included in Fedora 11 RC1 still fails to boot from the local disk.

Comment 10 Petr Šplíchal 2009-09-01 13:28:22 UTC
The same issue still present in Fedora 12 Alpha.

Comment 11 cornel panceac 2009-09-02 10:59:40 UTC

Comment 12 xandry 2010-04-19 17:10:52 UTC

Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
