svg background works fine in rawhide, and for issues with icons when resizing the panel, that is not the panels fault, but depends on the definitions in the icon theme. Ah OK. I assumed we supported SVG already. +1 set resolution to RAWHIDE and close. I guess this is the same thing I am seeing. If I have the size of the gnome panel 47 pixels or less the logout icon appears as a running man, but if I make it bigger the icon turns into something that looks like a dark photograph with the lower right corner turned up. Adding to the mystery: comment #3 above applies to a machine I upgraded from F7 to F8. But on the same machine I have another disk partition with F8 fresh installed, and on that one I can make the gnome panel as large as I want and still the logout icon remains the green running man. This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '8'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life.
