Description of problem:

Installation fails because CD/DVD cannot be read.
 
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 9 alpha

How reproducible:
On this system it is every time. Another system behaves differently (doesn't
even get this far).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. insert Fedora alpha x86_64 DVD in Pioneer 108 drive and boot
2. select install or uprade existing linux system
3. anaconda runs and one proceeds through language and keyboard selection
4. one is asked for the location of the image; select CD/DVD
 
Actual results:

The system reports
The Fedora disc was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the
Fedora disk and press OK to retry.

Expected results:
It should detect the DVD (which is there and was used to get one this far) and
proceed with the installation.

Additional info:
This problem exists with earlier Fedora releases and different drives. It has
not been fixed. I believe that this particular system has been fine up to this
release. With other computers containing Pioneer 109 and 110 drives problems
began with FC6. Using noacpi is of no help.

What type of controller is the drive attached to?

And which IDE controller is the drive actually attached to?

Not sure what you're asking here.

It is the Primary IDE Master controller. This is confirmed by the BIOS.

I've retested this with Fedora 9 Beta (anaconda 11.4.0.55) and this particular
problem now appears to be resolved (on my system with a Pioneer DVR108 DVD drive).

It also appeared to be resolved on another system with a Pioneer 111D DVD drive.

Thank you very much to those who worked on this one. It has been a major -- not
even linux rescue would work -- for the past 3 Fedora releases (FC6, F7 and F8)
and was heading for a 4th!
