Description Lorenzo Villani 2008-03-26 17:29:52 UTC
Description of problem:

Mailman and other packages depends on httpd (apache webserver). - This is not a
real bug report but it's instead a wish (this is why it's marked as low priority).
With a growing number of alternative web-server packages in Fedora repositories
i would expect a more general dependency and architectural scheme.
Packages depending on a WWW server should depend on a virtual package (for
instance www-server) provided by individual server packages.
In addiction the WWW server user:group should be changed from "apache" to
something like "www-data" or such (this impacts some packages like Mailman).

This will make system administrators happier since they'll see less unneeded
stuff installed.

This is applicable to rawhide but also on Fedora 7,8, RHEL 5. Such structural
change won't probably be integrated in rawhide but I think that can be planned
for the next release of Fedora (10?)

This is really too vague to be in bugzilla. If you want to propose something
specific, please post to fedora-devel and we can discuss it there.
